It’s Monday…let’s make something! ~ Week 33
Week 33! Last week was a busy week, as I was busting butt trying to get everything made and prepared for the upcoming Harvested Market! I managed to get it all done, had quite the successful day! And today it was nice to get back up into the barn and just make something fun. I saw Leah Houghtaling make one of these last week…so I decided to grab a piece of maple off my shelf and give it a try.
Check out today’s video! ——->
I started off on the Grizzly bandsaw but cutting the log to size. Then I cut the top and bottom off of the piece. Then cut out the center of the log…and let me say…Leah makes this look easy! HA! But after that I cut the top off the center piece and went over to the table to glue it together. I used CA glue and some quick dry spray to glue top of the core to the bottom of the lid. (Did that make sense? lol) And then I glued the main part of the box back together at its seam. Then glued the main part to the bottom! And voila! We have a container!
Then I went over to the Powermatic lathe and mounted the core on it to make the handle for the lid. I decided to make it in the shape of a mushroom. I first turned a foot, then flipped it over in the chuck jaws. I rounded out the piece and then cut it in half, then I shaped the mushroom handle. Once that was done I sanded it and took it over to the bandsaw to cut it from the foot.
Then it was time to sand the top and bottom of the box and glue on the mushroom! And just like that…I have a little container. Pretty fun to make…not sure what I’ll do with it! But hey…Make Something Monday is about getting into the barn and just having fun! And I did today! What do you all think?
I’ll see you back up in the barn next Monday!!
