It’s Monday…let’s make something! ~ Week 30!
Happy Halloween week! And it’s Week 30!! I thought about making another Wizarding Wand this week…but figured I’d make something that I will be making for the upcoming Harvested Festival next month! Check out today’s video! ——>
I ran down to Rockler Woodworking last Friday to pick up some pen blanks to make a few things. And today I grabbed this piece of Bolivian Rosewood. I took it to the Grizzly bandsaw, marked it to the correct length and cut it. Then, just like the crochet hook handle from a few weeks ago, I drilled a hole through the center. Then I roughed up the tube with sandpaper, added CA glue and inserted it into the blank. Once the glue dried it was time to get it on the lathe.
The shape of the seam ripper handle is different from the crochet hook, this seam ripper is double ended, so both ends needed to be rounded. Once I rounded out the entire blank, I started by turning the ends. Then onto the main part of the handle that sits in your hand. these handles are quick to make, but fun because each piece of wood looks completely different!
Once I had the shape I wanted, I sanded and oiled the handle. Then it was time for my favorite part…man they really need a sarcasm font! Inserting the two pieces in the ends that hold the rippers can be a real bugger sometimes! But I managed to get these ones done without too much problem!
So what do you all think? Know anyone that needs a seam ripper? I have one currently available in my store! And any that don’t sell during the Harvested Market will be listed on my website!
I hope you all have a wonderful week and a great Halloween! I’ll be watching Hocus Pocus with my kids!
See you all back up in the barn next Monday!
