Wood turned bowls are some of the most beautiful things that can come off a lathe. Getting into my shop and learning how to turn bowls has truly been a labor love...but it's something that I truly am grateful that I've taken the time to learn.

Alder is a beautiful wood that is plentiful here in the Pacific Northwest. After a massive storm here on the farm, a large alder tree fell across our driveway affording me tons of wood to turn! This bowl is "spalted," which is a process where bacteria enters the wood and creates these amazing dark lines and discoloring throughout the wood. This wood was tough to work with because it chipped while turning. I sanded this bowl as much as I could, but please know that there is still some character to this bowl!

Also note the shape of this bowl...after turning wood has a tendency to shift shape a bit...and this bowl has gone a tad "oval" in shape. That's the great thing about wood...it can change a bit as time goes on!

This bowl was hand turned, by me, here on the farm and finished with Mahoney's Heat Treated Filtered Walnut Oil and rubbed down with B.P. Farms Wood Butter.
